The workshops are an important pillar of the program for doctoral students undertaking Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) studies. Providing a supportive, stimulating research environment, the gatherings enable young, promising researchers to develop sound research skills and open up new frontiers of inquiry.

The workshops are intended to stimulate research methods, analyses and presentation techniques, as well as encourage the creation of transnational research networks. Young scholars at an advanced stage of Ph.D. research are brought together from around the world to discuss broadly common research interests and receive feedback from peers and established researchers.

Since the first workshop was held at Doshisha University in March 2005, the gatherings have been held alternately in Beijing and Kyoto.
